Solvon FB

- A series of proprietary solvent blends consisting of high purity nPB (n-propyl bromide) and pFB (pentafluorobutane). This series is formulated especially to replace chlorofluorocarbon solvents such as CFC-113 and hydrochlorofluorocarbon solvents such as HCFC-141b and HCFC-225ca/cb. Currently, there are three members of this series:

Solvon® FB2 is very mild, high surface wetting and medium evaporation rate.
Solvon® FB5 is mild, high surface wetting and high evaporation rate.
Solvon® FB7 is less mild, highest surface wetting and lower evaporation rate.



Applications

Solvon® FB2, FB5 and FB7 solvents are tailored for cold cleaning and deposition applications. They can be used as a vehicle to deliver and deposit of various dispersion mixtures, such as lubricants and coatings.

Cleaning

Method of Application:
Aerosols, sprayers, pre-saturated wipes, swabs and cold immersion washes.
Soils removed:
Light, medium and heavy duty oils and greases, waxes, polishing compounds, buffing compounds, release agents, particulates, hydraulic fluids and lubricants as well as RA, RMA, and no-clean fluxes
Parts cleaned:
Precision parts including: optical components, composites, printed circuit boards, electro-mechanical devices, electronic components, computers, keyboards, ceramics, connectors, relays, capacitors, flip-chip assemblies, medical devices, molds, movie film, tape-heads, hybrid assemblies, switches.
Substrates cleaned:
Metals (aluminum, brass, copper steel, stainless steel, carbon-steel, nickel, silver, gold…), glass, ceramics, composites, plastics, polymers and elastomers

Which Solvon FB Series Solvent Is Right For You?

Solvon® FB2, the mildest solvent of the series, makes it the best suited for applications with sensitive plastic and elastomers. It is considered an excellent CFC-113 replacement. Suggested applications include those that require particulate or light oil removal from metals or sensitive plastic surfaces. Applications include plastic optical lens cleaning, film (movie) cleaning and fingerprint developer carriers.

Solvon® FB5 has good solvency, excellent wetting ability and the fastest surface evaporation in the FB series. This blend is considered an excellent HCFC-141b solvent alternative. Although it has a higher boiling point than HCFC-141b, it evaporates from the surface, much faster. Suitable cleaning applications include flushing lines for refrigeration, oxygen, air (pneumatic) and hydraulic systems, removing particulate and oil from precision-machined parts and cleaning precision optical lenses. Coating applications include depositing uniform, solvent-soluble inks, adhesives, sealant and paints for many diverse applications as well as depositing hydrocarbon, fluoropolymer or silicone lubricants for applications such as disk drives, medical tubing, needles and instruments. Specialty solvent cooling applications such as residue free drill lubricant/cooling and spray freeze cleaning (gum or tar removal) are also possible.

Solvon® FB7 is the most aggressive solvent of the series. Solvon® FB7 is suited for applications where great solvency combined with superior wetting is desired. Heavy contaminants such as drawing oils, waxes, blocking compounds, inks, printing toners, solder flux residues as well as a variety of organic soils are easily dissolved. Solvon® FB7 is particularly well suited for cleaning a broad variety of contaminants such as those found in field servicing of electronic assemblies, electromechanical components, refrigeration and hydraulic systems as well as precision machined components.

Safety

Solvon® is not a reportable chemical under SARA 313.

Solvon® is not regulated as a hazardous waste under RCRA.
Solvon® is not regulated as hazardous air pollutant under NESHAP.
Solvon® is still considered as VOC and must be used according the regulations.

Solvon solvents are meant for industrial use only. Like all solvents, they should be used by individuals whom are made thoroughly familiar with the solvent's properties, safe-handling procedures and with adequate and proper engineering controls, to minimize workers' exposure.

 

The Solvon® FB series solvents principal unique component, the pFB, is SNAP approved by the US EPA as a suitable solvent alternative to ozone depleting chemicals and is VOC exempt. All other components and admixtures in the FB series solvent are not regulated by SNAP and are currently considered VOCs pending VOC exemption application approval.
